What to expect from a good waterproofing contractor

You called for a free waterproofing estimate.

The salesperson came, hopefully on time, with the whole sales arsenal: videos, a few samples. He or she then spent over an hour showing scary videos on "toxic mold" and going over the many ways in which "your wet basement will kill you".

The sales agent then went down in the basement, took a few measurements, asked you a few questions but didn't really take into consideration any of your answers and concerns. The salesperson made it look like he or she knew what needed to be done and you felt like you had no say in whatever solution they managed to come up with.

You were finally presented you with some sort of 'proposal' specifying nothing. No detailed description of the products to be used or services to be performed. You felt like you were reading a document written in some alien language, telling you how much they’d be charging to do something you could not fully understand.

The price was so high you almost had a heart attack. When you managed to catch you breath, you refused to close the deal.

The salesperson then proceeded to offer all sorts of overly generous cascading discounts, knocking the final price down to an unbelievable fraction of the first asking price.

Suspicious about the price, you told the person you'd like to get a couple more estimates before you pick a contractor.

After bashing the competitors for several minutes in an attempt to keep you from calling someone else, the sales agent informs you that all those "generous" discounts will only apply if "you close the deal right now".

Sounds pretty awful huh? Believe it or not, that is exactly the experience many homeowners have when shopping for basement or crawl space waterproofing contractors.
