Northumberland, PA – Basement Systems Calgary was recently honored at a meeting of over 600 guests from all over the United States and Canada at this year’s Team Basement Systems Convention. The annual convention is held each year between Seymour, Connecticut, (where the Basement Systems headquarters is located) and Hartford, Connecticut, and brings together dealerships of the international network for classes, seminars, training, parties and networking.

This year, Basement Systems Calgary received two awards at the Team Basement Systems International Convention. Basement Systems Calgary was ranked as one of the Top 30 Basement Systems Dealers and Foundation Supportworks Dealers in the United States and Canada.

The convention featured guest speakers Krish Duhnam (of the Zig Ziglar corporation), and the “Pit bull of Personal Development” Larry Winget. A sports-themed party at the Connecticut Convention Center ended the convention week with music, food and performances by the Harlem Wizards and the New England Patriots Cheerleaders.

June floods put Calgary residents on edge

Medicine Hat, AB - Calgary area residents are recovering after heavy rains dropped over 150 mm of water on Cypress Hills residents over a period of days in June 2010. Twelve rivers were overflowing and roughly twenty homes were evacuated due to flooding.

Residents were on edge as they weren't sure how much rain was in the immediate future and snow runoff from the Canadian Rockies was still coming downstream as well. Bridges were a concern too as waters raged along overflowed banks and roads. The Trans-Canadian highway was closed near the Saskatchewan - Alberta border and drivers were forced to take a 100 km detour.

Now that the flood waters have receded, clean-up efforts have begun and area residents have pumped water out of their homes. For those with less water damage in their homes, clean up may be a little easier but there is still much work to do.

First, any standing water is removed. Then, if not already installed, a sump pump is put in the low point of the basement or crawl space to get entering water out of the space. A state-of-the-art French drain system can be installed in a basement to bring all water seepage to the sump pump. In a crawl space, a vapor barrier or encapsulation system is recommended. Finally, an industrial-strength dehumidifier should be installed to get moisture out of the air. Keeping the relative humidity under control helps prevent mold growth in the basement or crawl space.

Calgary Basement Waterproofers Award $5K to Local Homeowners

Calgary, AB- Local basement waterproofing contractor, Calgary Basement Systems, awards $5,000 in contest money to local homeowners.

Despite the recession, Basement Systems Calgary has had a banner year so far in 2010, with sales in their basement waterproofing, crawl space moisture control, and foundation repair services reaching record highs.

To celebrate their success, the company unveiled its "Pre-Flood Sweepstakes", which ran from March 1st to April 30th, 2010. The contest was open to all customers who had purchased a basement or crawl space system of $10,000 or more in cost. Chances of winning were one in 50.

The winners of the contest, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Lepard, were announced on the Basement Systems Calgary fan page on Facebook on May 14, 2010. The Lepards contracted the company to repair a foundation settlement issue due to poor supporting soils underneath the structure. Installation of the foundation pier system had been conducted during a spring storm.

Mrs. Lepard had a lot to say about both the contest and the work done on their home. "We're just thankful that Basement Systems had this contest. When the basement work was done on our house, it was a very stressful time for the workers and for us because it was a spring storm in Calgary and they persevered and just kept going deeper and deeper because apparently we live on very soft ground. We believe now that we live on solid ground"

Mr. Lepard was equally pleased with the workmanship and prize money. "This helps maintain value in our home. Five thousand dollars is a big surprise! Thank you!"

You called for a free waterproofing estimate.

The salesperson came, hopefully on time, with the whole sales arsenal: videos, a few samples. He or she then spent over an hour showing scary videos on "toxic mold" and going over the many ways in which "your wet basement will kill you".

The sales agent then went down in the basement, took a few measurements, asked you a few questions but didn't really take into consideration any of your answers and concerns. The salesperson made it look like he or she knew what needed to be done and you felt like you had no say in whatever solution they managed to come up with.
