Doug Lacey's Basement Systems Case Studies: Basement Repair in Calgary, AB
Challenge
This residence is a 1930’s one story bungalow in Calgary Alberta.
The homeowners of this residence lived in the flood zone, after the flooding city officials were concerned of the delimitation and structural integrity of the east foundation wall. Upperhut enterprises along with the home owners then contacted Basement Systems Calgary to provide a solution to their deteriorating foundation wall. During the inspection from Basement Systems it was visually evident that the east foundation wall was deteriorating and cracking. Also during inspection it was discovered the deterioration overlapped the corners from the east foundation wall to north and south walls.
Solution
After inspection from Basement Systems Calgary along with Chaudhary Engineering, the solution proposed and executed was to construct a new structural support system. This consisted of removing 4’ sections of the existing floor slab following with pouring a new 18” by 8” footing with 2#10 continuous rebar footing. Next delta drainage matting was applied to the foundation wall with 3/4” tongue and groove plywood. At this stage Basement Systems Calgary’s patented powerbrace system was installed for lateral structural support. At the front of the newly constructed footing a new Waterguard interior weeping tile system was installed and connected into Basement Systems Calgary’s Supersump pump system followed by replacement of ¾” stone and concrete slab. To add additional compression support a 2 X 6 wood wall with 12” centers was constructed. Along with the engineering permit and stamp Basement Systems Calgary’s powerbrace system adds a 25-year old warranty on manufacturing defects and performance.
