Radon Action Month

November is Radon Action Month

November has been designated National Radon Action Month in order to help educate the public about Radon Gas, the dangers that come with exposure to it, and the various steps that can be taken to protect homeowners and their families against this naturally occurring gas.

What is Radon Gas?
A naturally occurring gas, radon exists within water, rocks, and soil. Most soils contain uranium that, over time, decays to produce radium and polonium. Eventually, polonium is released with the radon, which creates a high toxicity level in the air and water that it infuses. We cannot smell, taste, see, touch, or hear radon. Thus, it easily goes unnoticed.

What Can Be Done?
Nearly every home in Canada has some level of radon. The level in your house can be different than the level in your neighbor's house. The only way to know if you have a radon problem is to test your home. Testing for radon gas in your home is easy and inexpensive. In fact, we here at Doug Lacey's Basement Systems want everyone to test their home which is why we offer everyone a FREE Short Term Test Kit!

Facts About Radon Gas

  • Prolonged exposure to radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking
  • We cannot smell, taste, see, touch, or hear radon gas
