The Bow and Elbow Rivers are under a ‘Watch for flood Alert’ status. There is an expected 100 to 150 mm (4 to 6 inches) which will rapidly increase the flow in the Bow River, Elbow River as well as Fish Creek and Pine Creek.

The rain is expected to continue will into Wednesday but the high river flow will remain well into the weekend.

Ways To Protect Your Home

  • Remove lawn furniture and other portable items off the riverbank.
  • Move valuables and documents out of your basement as basement seepage is possible in river communities in lower lying areas.
  • If you have a sump pump or backflow valve, ensure it’s working.
  • Direct rainwater away from your home: Eavestroughs and extensions should drain at least 1.5 metres (5 feet) away from yours and your neighours’ home and onto a landscaped area so the water can soak into the ground.
