Basement Waterproofing Photo Album: Side Discharge Allows for Sump to be Hidden in SE Calgary, AB

Album Description

This homeowner in South East Calgary, Alberta encountered issues with water entering the basement of their home. Looking for a permanent and reliable solution they contacted the experts at Doug Lacey's Basement Systems.

A System Design Specialist was able to assess the situation and provide the homeowners with a FREE, no obligation quote designed specific to address all of their concerns. Our Production Team went to the home to install our SuperSump® sump pump system. A full-featured system, SuperSump® includes the best components available including a top-rated 1/3HP Zoeller® pump is designed for reliability & high-volume pumping. What you will notice is there is no discharge line coming out of the top of the sump pump lid, a side discharge was installed instead. A side discharge is a really great option when the sump pump is to be located in a finished space in the basement.  Similar to a top discharge the hole for the sump is jackhammered and the basin is installed flush with the floor.  The difference with a side discharge is the plumbing off the pump is directed out the side of the basin below the lid.  We then install a solid lid that sits flush with the concrete floor.  The discharge line can then be run to the exterior wall and up the wall before being cored through to the exterior of the home. The home owner can then finish with stud framing and drywall and conceal the discharge line.  Carpet or other flooring material can be laid over top of the solid sump lid so long as access remains for future maintenance on the sump system.  Basement Systems also installs a WaterWatch alarm system on side discharge sumps with a probe and wire to a small box that would be situated in the finished room.  If the water levels were to reach the probe an alarm would warn the owner that there is an issue with the system.

From there the system will discharge any water entering the sump pump basin to the exterior of the home passing through our patented IceGuard® system, an anti-freeze fitting that is installed outside of your home and ejects water away from the foundation in the event that the sump pump discharge lines freeze or become clogged.
