Foundation Repair Case Studies: Foundation Wall Stabilization in SE Calgary, AB
Challenge
This newer 4 level split home located in SW Calgary began to show settlement of the foundation of up to 2" in spots, creating large visible cracks. This then translated to visible cracking of the drywall, as well as doors becoming more challenging to open due to being out of level from when the home was originally constructed. In order to get a full scope of what was happening with this home's foundation, we required a member of our Production Team to open up sections of concrete for further inspection along the wall.
Solution
After a further consultation with the foundation repair experts at Doug Lacey's Basement Systems, it was determined that the Supportworks™ Model 288 Push Pier System would be the optimal solution to not only permanently stabilize this foundation, but also give the best opportunity to lift the structure back to a level position. The Push Piers are made of steel and are driven deep into the soil beneath a foundation to load-bearing strata. Once locked into place, the weight of the home was then transferred from the original, unstable soils, through the piers, to the competent soil or bedrock below utilizing eight (8) Supportworks Push Piers at approximately 19' in depth each.
