Foundation Repair Case Studies: Retaining Wall in NW Calgary, AB
Challenge
This home located in MacEwan Glen in NW Calgary had an old wooden fence and retaining wall that was heavily leaning into the neighbors yard. The existing retaining wall was built out of 4x4 posts stacked on top of each other approx 2 ft high. Our Supportworks Geo-lock Wall Anchor System works exceptionally well on poured or block concrete retaining walls, however in this case it was determined that a brand new retaining wall was going to be required along with one Geo-Lock™ Anchor to stabilize their shed.
Solution
After reviewing the options for repair it was determined that we would build a new Preserved Wood retaining wall. The homeowner had been referred to us by friends who we fixed a concrete retaining wall for using our Geo-Lock™ Wall Anchor System. A design was created to ensure that the homeowners would be able to build a new fence after the structural retaining wall was built.
One Geo-Lock™ Wall Anchor was used to support the shed at the back of the yard and new 4x6 posts were installed with 6000 psi concrete. The preserved wood retaining wall was then built with 2x8’s at 40” height. As a “wow” service measure our foreman on the job cleaned up the neighbors yard and installed stone to clean up their side.
Here's what this homeowner had to say:
"Cyle was amazing and my husband was extremely impressed! Absolutely amazing! 10 out 10!”
